All change at Calor Gas

Calor gas announced changes which will impact on Caravan, Campervan, Motorhome and Boat owners.

From 1st February 2023 the UK’s leading supplier of LPG has announced that the Cube, 3.9kg Propane, 4 -5 kg Butane, 6Lite Propane and 12kg Butane will be discontinued. This means that customers won’t be able to buy new cylinders or exchange existing cylinders of these sizes for a refill.

Customers will be offered, what the company calls, suitable alternatives. In exchange for the 4.5 Butane you will be offered either the 7kg Butane or the 6kg Propane. The 3.9 litre Propane will no longer be available but customers will be offered the 6kg Propane or the 7kg Butane. The light weight cylinder will no longer be available at all, but customers will be able to exchange these for the 7kg Butane or the 6kg Propane.

Many customers are likely to find difficulty with the changes as their gas bottle compartments won’t be able to house the larger cylinders, and those who will look to change from Propane to Butane will need to fit a regulator.

During the Pandemic rumours abounded that Calor were running out of bottles, it appears that like many other industries the company has had difficulty in obtaining the raw materials to satisfy demand and have had no choice but to find a way around this problem.

So what are the alternatives?

The light blue Camping Gaz bottle is only available in 2.72kgs , a refill costing £35.00. The price of an ’empty’ bottle is £45.99!

Another option is Flogas, the difficulty here is finding dealers and suitable sizes.

An initially more expensive but better alternative is to fit permanent cylinders from Gaslow http://www.gaslowdirect.com.

Once installed you can fill these straight away from an autogas pump which you will find across the country. The system is more economical and prices range anywhere from £0.70 to £1.20 per litre depending where you fill up, Morrisons offer this service at many of their sites, alternatively you can download the Autogas app which will show you where you can find autogas in UK and Europe. Across the continent you can fill up at most garages.
